Calvary Chapel Jinja
Calvary Chapel Jinja was started by Pastor Jay McLaughlin in 1993 when Jay and his wife Sunny came to Uganda as missionaries for Calvary of Albuquerque. Jay laid the foundations of the ministry on having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and growing in that relationship through studying the Bible, God’s word both inerrant and infallible. The ministry still maintains this focus.
In 1998 Jesse and Beverly Rich joined the McLaughlins enabling the expansion of the prison ministry and the formation of the School of Ministry. The SoM has been the source of the ministry’s church planting efforts.
In 2001 Ryan McCabe joined the ministry starting the Youth Ministry and forming a contemporary worship team. Ryan has since moved to Kitgum in northern Uganda, where he leads a church and outreach ministry.
2004 saw the McLaughlins retire from the ministry and Jesse Rich became the senior pastor.
In 2005 JB Toolit from Pajule, Uganda was ordained and became the Sunday teaching pastor at CCJ. In 2011 he resigned from CCJ in order to establish a church in his home village.
2007 saw the arrival of Keith and Ellen Carpenter to work for two years with the CCJ church plants. They returned to America in 2009.
The youth ministry saw new life and growth with the addition of Kelli O’Hea in 2008.
Early in 2011 Moro Steven Collins took over as the Sunday teaching pastor with the departure of Pastor JB.
Throughout all this time with many changes, Jesus is still faithfully building His church here in Jinja
